This year's harvest has proven to be our largest yet! We beat our estimated tonnage for Barbera, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and our Field Blend. With such a wet, mildew-prone year, we were pleased to see bountiful high-quality fruit.
Traditionally, Meikle Family Vineyards has solely employed willing family and friends to complete our harvest, but for the second year in a row, we found it necessary to bring in a team of skilled laborers to help our motley "volunteer" crew hand-harvest several acres of grapes. Now that we've vastly outgrown hobby vintner production levels, we foresee professional laborers becoming a staple in all of our future harvests. That's not to say Meikle Family harvest traditions will disappear anytime soon. Friends and family will always play a key role in our vineyard, and our annual post-harvest dinner and wine tasting, organized by "Chief Culinary Officer" Jane Meikle, will forever be a much anticipated Fall institution.
