The Lazy Larry name is derived from our proprietor's brother who played a significant role in the establishment, development and transformation of MFV Winery from 4J’s Ranch purchased in 1989 to what is now regarded as one of Sierra Foothills most highly regarded Wineries.

This wine was harvested on September 8, 2020 and after fermentation was pressed and transferred into Missouri American Oak Barrels for 31 months then stored in our wine cave at MFV Winery until April 28th 2023 . At that time it was transported to Drytown Cellars to be filtered and bottled then returned to MFV for storage until our winemaker deemed it ready for our customers. We always hold our wines in storage for a few months before releasing them which can help integrate flavors, encourage more appealing texture or develop a slightly more mature profile.

The Zinfandel clones for this wine are a combination of Turley and California Heritage RW Moore Vineyard all established on a 110R Rootstock that is superb in rocky terrain such as ours.

This specific vintage was matured in 25% new Missouri Oak and 75% neutral barrels which are barrels that have been used for at least three years and have been holding wine during that period. Neutral oak barrels are able to hold liquid without leakage and allows minimal oxidation and allows for the wine to mature and flavors to integrate. We maintain our wines in oak barrels and avoid the use of stainless steel tanks in the more traditional methods of winemaking This specific vintage has a slight aroma of vanilla from the “nose of the wine”or the scent one gets at first smell of the wine. . It is a very fruit forward example of the high elevation wine that our grapes express from being grown on an old nutrient rich river channel at 3000 ft elevation.

The wine has a deep ruby red color and is 100% Zinfandel with medium body structure and an extremely smooth finish with a slight hint of pepper. Unlike a big full bodied very peppery Zinfandel that is typically grown in the valley, this wine is an exceptional easy drinking wine that is a prime example of the wines grown and produced at MFV Vineyards. Our Zinfandel pairs well with grilled or roasted meats, pizza and pasta with tomato sauce and everything barbecued. Of course, dark chocolate is enhanced by a glass of MVF Zinfandel!!
