Meikle Family Vineyard’s 2020 Barbera is a wonderful example of the wines produced at Amador County’s highest elevation winery. Aged 30 months in 33% new Francois Freres Oak Wine Barrels and 66% in neutral barrels. This wine displays aromatics that are fruit forward and loaded with plum and blackberry with a silky smooth finish and a satin texture. It is known for its deep red to purple color, full body and low tannins.
The label on our wine bottle depicts the winery itself with our Italian Architecture designed house named “The Villa”. It is graced with our vineyard’s branch manager Tully’s Golden Retriever cousin “Remmy” protecting our vineyards.
This grape originated and has been grown since the 1200s in the Piedmont Region of Northern Italy but is also grown around the world from California to Australia. Barbera has been gaining in popularity around the world and in Italy it is known as “The People’s Wine”! Barbera is very versatile when it comes to pairing with foods. Some of the favorite dishes prepared to consume with Barbera are roast pork, steak, pizza and of course pasta dishes with red sauce such as Spaghetti with meatballs and of course bolognese sauce. Almost any pasta dish with tomato base matches perfectly with this wonderful Italian Variatial.
Cheese and sausage are a wonderful way to enjoy a glass of this amazingly delightful wine. Parmigiano-Reggiano and Gorgonzola are perfect matches for the acidity and fruitiness of this varietal.
